Batman Returns, 1992 |
Michelle Pfeiffer famously played Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in Tim Burton's 1992 blockbuster
Batman Returns, my favorite characte
r from the original Batman movies. She did an interview with Empire Magazine for
Dark Shadows and discussed Catwoman, as well as her thoughts on Anne Hathaway.
She mentions how Tim Burton wanted to create a Catwoman spinoff film with her after
Batman Returns, but that went into development hell when the studio wanted more family friendly films. She says of Hathaway,
"Oh I think she's great. I'm actually very much looking forward to seeing her in the role. I'm a big fan of hers and I think she has everything you need for that role. She has the humour, she can go to dark places, she's obviously very talented. I think she's going to be really good." She also says she would have played Catwoman again if Christopher Nolan had hypothetically asked her to in The Dark Knight Rises. Pfeiffer also loved playing such a dark and complex character which attracted her to the role.

Anne Hathaway, The Dark Knight Rises (2012) |
Tim Burton's films took a fantasy approach compared to the realism of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. In
Batman Returns, Catwoman has nine lives and develops her split personality after being pushed out a window. Nolan's Catwoman won't have nine lives, she's more of a street smart criminal true to the comic book character. There's no doubt that both interpretations will continue to be remembered for many years.
